WARNING: January Lie = +10lbs!
Stop waiting for January—start small today and enjoy holidays guilt-free! 💕🎄

Every October, we start whispering that sneaky little lie to ourselves: “I’ll just start in January.” It feels so tempting, doesn’t it? Like a cozy excuse wrapped in holiday cheer. 🎄

We tell ourselves things like, “I’m too busy to focus on weight loss right now,” or “I’ll enjoy the holidays and get serious later.”

But let’s gather close and get honest here.

You and I both know the real story that unfolds. 😔

We dive into treats we don’t even fully enjoy, trapped in that “Hey, it's only once-a-year” panic mode. Before we blink, those extra 5, 10, or even 15 pounds sneak on between now and New Year’s.

And January? Instead of feeling fresh and fired up, we’re heavier, bloated, and digging out of a bigger hole than before. 😒 It’s not just the physical weight. It’s the emotional baggage—the shame and regret that piles on, leaving us wondering, “What’s wrong with me?”

But nothing is wrong with you, dear heart! You’ve just believed a lie the enemy whispers, one that’s never brought true victory. 🙏

As we see in Proverbs 14:23, “In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty.” Let’s choose positive action over empty promises today! 🌟

So let’s stop pretending. Here’s why waiting until January really messes things up... and what to do instead. 🛑

The real cost of waiting 👉 It costs you time. ⏰

Every pound gained in November and December is one more pound we have to lose later. So your January “start” becomes a double battle: shedding holiday weight PLUS your original pounds. No thank you!

It costs you money. 💸

That “who cares anyway” eating adds up—extra restaurant meals, unneeded drinks and snacks, and those “holiday treats” in your cart you’d skip if you were focused.

And it costs you confidence. 😔

Nothing stings like kicking off the year already behind, promising “this time will be different” while carrying guilt.

We’re children of the King and Ambassadors for Christ—we can do, be, and have better!

What to do instead of waiting

If you want things to be different this year, here’s how to enjoy the holidays AND lose weight with joy at the same time: 🎉

Do something small today. One small step. 👣  Yes, today! Small steps daily add up, just like those little unplanned extras add up on the scale. Even if it feels tiny, start now.

Here are a few suggestions:
Every bit counts and honors God!

Drink water before dinner 💦
Pray and then jot down your meal plan. 📒
Pick your favorite foods on purpose! 🍪
Move your body for 15 minutes. 🚶‍♀️💃💪
You know what? Not every treat needs to cross your lips! 🫨

Prayerfully list what’s truly worth it—that special dessert? The side dish that you only see once a year? Include it on the list!

Decide ahead, enjoy them, and skip the “eat-it-all-now-because-January-is-when-I'll-be-good” nonsense.

Plan to enjoy the people, not just food. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Holidays are about celebration and connection, but people can be tricky—food pushers ("Just one more bite won't hurt!"); correctors ("Are you sure you want to eat that?"); and plate pilers ("C'mon now, have a second helping, and a third--we've got plenty!").

Practice your gracious responses now: “No, thank you. I've had plenty.”

In Weightloss Without Willpower, we have an entire worksheet of great responses you can use for holidays and any occasion (takes a lot of the pressure and weight off--literally!).

Other people's feelings aren’t your load to carry. ✝️

As Romans 12:2 reminds us, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Renew your mind this season, dear one! 🥰

Catch yourself before the “oh, forget about it—who cares anyway” spiral begins. When “I’ll start over later” hits, PAUSE! That’s the lie talking.

Ask, “Lord, what’s one better choice right now?”

One wise bite saves regret and calories later. ✅ And just imagine the freedom on the other side—sisters like you are already living it!

Take Jenn in Pennsylvania (above), who shared: “I've dropped 60 pounds and have been at my goal weight for over 2 years. I have learned so much that will stay with me for the rest of my days. I give God all the glory and I thank Dr. Laurette for starting this program.” What a testimony to God’s transforming power! 🌟

Bottom line:
Waiting for January doesn’t free you—it chains you to regret. 🔗

You don’t need a “fresh start” on the calendar. Shatter that January myth with faith today! Decide now, and you can enjoy the foods you enjoy, drop weight through the holidays, and enter the new year joyful and empowered. 🎊

Let’s live out James 1:22 (NKJV): “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Let's be doers, dear heart! 📖

Bookmark this post and reread before every holiday gathering or when temptation to "forget-about-it" looms. And if a sister’s muttering “I'll start over in January,” share this with her, too.
